No certification is required! Our expedition is open to snorkelers and freedivers alike. You’ll be able to enjoy the experience and most of the Mobulas stay very close to the surface. You do need to feel confortable swimming in open water (where you might now see the bottom)
While Mobulas are the main focus, you’ll also have the chance to encounter other marine wildlife during this safari. The most common (that we see almost every day) are Mobulas (Mobula munkiana), Dolphins (Resident bottle nose dolphin pod), Sea turtles and Sea Lions (at their colony called La Reina). Other sightings that we might or might not see every week are: other species of Mobula (there are 5 total), other species of dolphins (bottlenose, common, spinner, pan tropical, Risso’s, Rough toothed), Whales (Blue whale, Fin whale, Humpback whale, Bryde’s whale, Sperm Whale), Orcas, Pilot Whales, False killer whales, Whale shark, Mola mola, 4 species of Sea turtles and more! This is a list of all the species we have seen during the season, it doesn’t mean that you will see them all in one week. This is the menu and each week carries a new surprise.
The Mobula season runs from April 15th to June 30th. During this time, we witness the largest schools of Mobulas in the world, making it the best time for encounters.
Yes, it is possible to see orcas during your expedition, as they use these waters for feeding, socializing, resting, and breeding. However, it’s important to note that orcas are highly mobile creatures that travel long distances daily, so we cannot guarantee sightings. Each year, our experienced captains gain a better understanding of their patterns, and sightings have become more frequent due to an increase in their presence in the area for safari experiences.
Yes! We offer private expeditions with flexible schedules and personalized itineraries. Contact us for details on tailoring your own custom Mobula Ray experience.
