Having an interaction with a Gray Whale is one of the most exciting and soul-touching adventures you can do in Baja.
Every winter, over 1500 Gray Whales travel more than 7,000 km from the Bering and Chukchi Seas (NE Pacific) to the protected bays of Baja California Peninsula. This “sanctuaries” are used by Whales for mating, giving birth, protecting against predators and rest.
Gray Whales are known as friendly whales. They are known for their curiosity towards boats, coming right next to them. Some of them are so friendly that sometimes if you’re lucky they come right next to the boat, poke the head out and let you pet it. This is an interaction that changes your life. We never force an interaction. Our captain follows the strict protocols in order to respect the whales, and if a whale chooses to interact with us, we let her come close to us and have a life changing experience.
We’ll meet around 7 am, have a 2 h 15 min drive and go straight to the boat. We have 3 hours for whale watching, observe behaviour and take pictures. After a delicious local fresh seafood aguachile lunch we’ll get back to land and drive back to La Paz, arriving around 4 pm.

While we can’t guarantee whale sightings, as these are wild animals in their natural habitat, this unpredictability is what makes the experience so special. We believe in ethical wildlife encounters, meaning we don’t control or force interactions. Instead, we respect the whales’ natural behavior, and when they choose to show themselves, it’s a truly magical and authentic moment.
